3-Day Eastern Cape Safari at Quartermain’s 1920 Camp Amakhala

What are we going to experience ?

Quartermain’s 1920's Safari Camp is a rustic and intimate 3-star expedition style tented camp.

They are located in the beautiful malaria-free Amakhala Big Five Game Reserve.

Set in a hidden valley just 45 minutes from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and flanked by sub-tropical thicket-covered hillsides, the camp provides guests with an unforgettable safari experience. Experience the lovely simplicity of a bygone era with a focus on personalised service and 5-star wildlife viewing.

This vintage 1920's style expedition campsite is inspired by the golden age of discovery when adventure awaited around every turn. The clean white 1900's style safari tents are outfitted with military campaign-style furnishings, the choice of pioneers, hunters, and explorers of the day. Their modest 6-bed tented camp allows you to experience "Africa under canvas." Relax in the central thatched boma area, where traditional dishes are prepared on an open fire in front of you and dinner is served under a blanket of stars and nature provides the music. Every attempt has been made to maintain the expedition style, with concessions limited to rustic en suite bathrooms fitted with modern comforts.

The comfy Settler tents will ensure that you have a truly authentic wilderness experience. You might be lucky enough to sight an elusive bushbuck or hear the cry of an African fish eagle while relaxing on your own private terrace. One of the joys of your stay will undoubtedly be drifting off to sleep to the sounds of nature; you may almost expect to hear jackals calling, the exquisite voice of the Fiery-necked Nightjar (bird), perhaps the urgent shriek of a barn owl, or if you are lucky, the deep low menacing calls from the lions.
