Description

African Dawn Wildlife Sanctuary is a magnificent bird and wildlife refuge. It is situated just 20 minutes from Jeffreys Bay and 30 minutes from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

African Dawn hosts the largest aviary in the Eastern Cape, as well as other beautiful, spacious aviaries and enclosures. The birdlife is abundant and very beautiful to see and hear. Their colours and shapes, and yes, their chirpy personalities too, are a delight for the young and old!

Let your children come and see the birds and animals and learn all about the wildlife that surrounds them. They can even feed the free-roaming birds, including Guinea fowl, peacocks, and chicks. You can indulge in a picnic under a shaded old pear tree and just soak up the surrounding nature.

Running a successful rehabilitation unit, numerous birds are helped and are released where possible. In 2016 alone, over 300 birds needing refuge were admitted into African Dawn. They are a registered Non-Profit Organization (NPO) committed to this release where possible and otherwise providing a safe sanctuary. Some of their endangered animals include Blue Duiker and Blue and Crowned cranes, as well as their Cheetahs and Servals.

These animals are not being bred and are at the sanctuary as ambassadors for their species, helping to educate people about the difficulties endangered animals face. There are no "petting" interactions with any of the birds or animals, but rather awareness and education are shared. Come visit this wonderful sanctuary.

There is an option to do a self-game drive as well as enjoy a hike through the park.
