The Schotia Private Game Reserve is the oldest private game reserve in South Africa's Eastern Cape, bordering the eastern edge of Addo Elephant National Park.
Come and enjoy your safari in South Africa on this malaria-free game reserve, likely Africa's most densely stocked, with over 40 mammal species and over 2000 animals. On Schotia, you will see diurnal as well as nocturnal animals. Rhinos, hippopotamuses, crocodiles, giraffes, elephants, buffalo, waterbuck, impala, sable, hartebeest, nyala, wildebeest, and other species, like yellow mongoose and spring hares, are all free to roam.
Sightings are excellent and close. All game drives on Schotia are in open game drive vehicles. Schotia was the first reserve in the Cape Province to host free-roaming lions, and views of these majestic animals are almost guaranteed on every Schotia game drive.
The Reserve boasts one of the largest open-air lapas in South Africa. It has reed and sneezewood walls and is open to the African skies, except for the outer ring, which has a traditionally thatched roof that covers the dining tables and bar area. Inside the lapa, there are numerous huge "Schotia" trees and a raging log fire.
Dinner is generally a blend of safari food and traditional South African delights; the specific menu changes depending on what is available on the day
